Where to start? There is so much chaos in our country and our leadership these days. What should I pray for? It's hard to know how best to pray for these kinds of things, especially when we have our own agenda. Everything is so partisan these days.
Order. Wisdom. Love, and kindness of heart. Guidance to act and legislate for our people, all people - left, right, in between. Set aside personal agenda for a national agenda, kind and equitable agenda. How do folks get so caught up in the beltway mentality? Is it mob mentality? Self-serving? I'll rub your back if you rub mine? Bless them, O God, with courage to act and govern with integrity and with a heart for all people - rich and poor, powerful and voiceless...especially the voiceless. Help them remember they are elected to serve...others, not themselves. Encourage them to pass laws and sign bills into laws that lift up the lowly, feed the hungry, provide dignity for those who have been left without face and voice, provide a strong economy and jobs for all people. Lift the burdens from the shoulders of the bent and place some of the burden on those who have small loads and strong backs. Lead our country with caring hearts, call out those places where change is needed, where light needs to shine in darkness to expose secrets and wrongdoing. Give truth to all leaders. Help them see truth, speak truth and hear truth, and follow it wherever it leads. Give to all of us a desire for truth telling, that our country may be re-formed in the ways of truth...and love for others. Change my heart as well, O God. Help me to be more generous with our government, expecting the best from them rather than always seeing the worst. Help me be more supportive of them and speak up instead of only criticizing. Praying for our country, our president and lawmakers, judges and civil workers of all kinds. It can't be an easy job. Working for others seldom is. Help them and encourage them in the ways you would have them lead and work...for all people. Amen.

Michelle JamesI'm a wife, mom, pastor, human...probably not in that order. I struggle each day to be faithful to God, to my family and to my call as a Christian and all of those previously-mentioned roles. I pray to be positive, kind and thoughtful, but tend to fall short on all counts. I am inspired by sunrises and enjoy taking pictures (mostly my kids, deer in the yard and sunrises). I waste time playing stupid computer games and wishing I'd been better at all of the aforementioned roles. ;-) Archives
